March 2020, the scriptures Psalms 91 (full chapter) and 2 Chronicle
In (chapter 7 and verse 14) came to mind amid this pandemic. Both have significant meaning and gives us hope in the power of the almighty God! 2 Chronicles has been appearing and, in fact, the la
st two weeks more than ever. I believe the Lord wanted me to write about it. I prayed about this scripture and this was what I believe God is speaking. When we analyze and closely look at this scripture, it is an accurate example of “cause and effect”. The outcome or results that will occur once something else is done.
2 Chronicles 7:14 verse is written here:
“… if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
If” is a conditional word. It is dependent on something or someone’s action. According to Merriam-Webster, the following defines this word:
a: in the event that
b: allowing that
c: on the assumption that
d: on condition that
You notice the word “that” appears at the end of each meaning. Unless the event or condition is meet, “that” condition cannot be met, allowed, or permitted.
As we dig deeper into this passage, we also find that God did not say one person, but He specifies a certain group of people in this passage. God stated, “my people”. These are not any ordinary people. They are people, as the passage continues, “called by my name. What is that name? It is the name above all names - Jesus Christ and what are followers of Christ called? They are “Christians”.
Also, there are prerequisites for the fulfilment of the need. What do Christians need to do? Humble themselves. The word humble is an action word that is to admit that God is in control and to admit that we need Him. It is to respect the authority of God. Also, it is relinquishing or surrendering our ways and turning or returning to God’s way. After taking the posture of humility, then we are to pray. Jesus gave us a prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 and He teaches us, “In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen”.
Not only are we to pray, but we are to seek His face. According to this website the Hebrew Definition of "Face", translation is His “presence”. Further explanation of this word “face” is explained below:
Hebrew word is a plural noun meaning "face." As most words in the Hebrew language expresses the idea of motion, this plural noun conveys the ideas of mood, emotions and thoughts, the different motions reflected in the face. This Hebrew word more precisely means the "presence" or the "wholeness of being" of an individual.
When we seek God’s face, we are seeking His presence. We are making a conscious effort to get in the presence of God to invite the Holy Spirit of God in the situation. We are looking to access and enter God’s throne of grace. As Hebrews 4:16 states, “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need”.
Lastly, God said, we are to turn from our wicked ways, which is to repent. This website defines "wicked". In reality, we are to repent and turn away from “… a mental disregard for justice, righteousness, truth, honor, virtue; evil in thought and life; depravity; sinfulness; criminality." The following link reveals the Seven Deadly Sins. These sins can destroy families, relationships, communities, nations, and more. In fact, one of the sins that is growing rapidly in this society, nation, and world is the sin of pride. According to the site, “Humility cures pride by removing one's ego and boastfulness, therefore allowing the attitude of service”.
God is a god of order. He has set things in motion and for everything to work in harmony. Before a flower blooms, there are steps before you see a rose or any flower. There is a process taking place and without the process there are no true results. Once God’s people take these actions, the process of God hearing, forgiving, and healing begins, according to this scripture. In other words, “if” we do our part, “then” God will do His part.
All these things working in harmony and motion (not stagnant, not doing one and forgetting the other parts) will give us the ear of God. When we get his ear, He hears and beautifully forgives and ultimately heals our land. To give an analogy of a recipe and what is needed to make the meal. When you are making one of your favorite dishes, you know all the ingredients that are needed to make this dish. If one ingredient is missing, you could substitute, but you do not get the correct taste or texture. I recalled a dish I wanted to cook, but I did not have all the precise ingredients. Since I did not have all the necessary ingredients, I did not make it. However, there came a time when I had all the ingredients needed to make this dish and then I was able to make it.
Overall, the process that God is telling His people for Him to hear us and forgive our sins is presented so precisely in 2 Chronicles 7:14. Another incident I recall was when a person actually put her fingers in her ears because she did not want to hear what the other person was saying. This young lady was ignoring the other person until she heard what she wanted or desired to hear. Once the person did her part, she felt obliged or please to do her part.
With this in mind, have we as Christians done our part?
Our world needs the healing hands of God. He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? (Micah 6:8)
Lord help us to do our part, so you can do Your part. We need you to heal the land!
